Anyu Fang and Jessica Bartholow co-authored the contents of this website. The development of the website was part of Mr. Fang’s field assignment, supervised by Ms. Bartholow, through the Congressional Hunger Center’s Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship program. Upon the completion of this project in February 2007, this website will be maintained by Ms. Bartholow, the Statewide Food Stamp Outreach and Nutrition Education Program Manager for California Association of Food Banks (CAFB), and her program team.
The website is also generously sponsored by the following organizations: California Wellness Foundation; California Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families; United States Department of Agriculture (USDA); and CAFB’s Food Stamp Outreach local partner organizations. These local organizations have continually raised Food Stamp Outreach funds, which are matched by USDA.
To break down barriers of Food Stamp access, the CAFB supports many nonprofit partner organizations in their Food Stamp Outreach and Nutrition Education efforts. This website will function as a common portal for these organizations to share ideas and promising practices. More broadly, MyFoodStamps.org aims to be a comprehensive resource for outreach workers, food assistance advocates, and potential program clients in California. It offers outreach strategies, guidance on eligibility rules, statistics and trends about food insecurity, explanations of the anti-hunger efforts of local organizations and governments, and advice on how individual citizens can help end hunger in California.
Elements of this website were inspired by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties and their past work funded by USDA Food Stamp Participation Grants in 2003 and 2004. The Food Stamp Application and Screening Tool (F.A.S.T.) that is downloadable via this website was designed by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties and the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
This website was funded in part by the USDA's Food Stamp Program through the California Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families. This institution is an equal opportunity employer.
